    STATEWIDE GASN ANNUAL CONFERENCE

     Save the Date - July 13, 2009

2009 Annual GASN Business Meeting and Awards Banquet

    Hi Members....
This is an invitation to you!  I am inviting you to #1, join or renew your membership by going to www.gasn.org and join gasn or go to members area and renew your membership.  You may also  print the application and mail to Karen Bell.  The cost is $45 per member for one year.
The second part of the invitation is an invitation for you to attend our Business Meeting on July 13th from 10 am to 3pm at the Anderson Conference Center in Macon GA.  The address is:  5171 Eisenhower Parkway  Macon, GA 31206 .  All members who have paid their dues for the 2009-2010 year (July to June) are invited to attend the meeting and luncheon to honor this year's School Nurses of the Year.  Even though we may not be at a conference, we want to celebrate for them.  This is a free event for our members who have renewed or just joined.
We also have alot to celebrate.... We have had the Georgia Budget signed  by Governor Perdue which includes the School Nurse Funding.  I would love for you to come and share with all of us the successes we have shared this year. I would love to shake your hands and break bread (have a really nice lunch on us!) to celebrate this year.  As soon as you renew or join, please either RSVP to me at:  president@gasn.org or to Karen Bell, our Treasurer at:  treasurer@gasn.org.  to let us know you are coming!  We need a head count for the caterer by June 13th, 2009. You only need to RSVP to one of us!  Please spend the day with us in Macon to celebrate that we are School Nurses!  There is NO cost for you to come for lunch.   This will be my final meeting as your GASN President and I would be honored if you would come and share this day with me.
I look forward to hearing from you.  Hopefully this will be a one day event for all of you.  If you choose to stay the night there are several hotels of all price ranges in the area. That is up to you!
    Please come to Macon!
    Respectfully,
    Joanne Giel, RN
    GASN President

    *********************************************

Even though circumstances have prevented us from holding our annual conference in 2009 we will however have our annual business meeting as required by our bylaws. We will also have our awards celebration for our School Nurses of the Year at this time as well as install our new President and Secretary. This will be our opportunity to network with follow members, celebrate our legislative successes and plan for our 2010 annual conference. Many members have asked that we hold this event in a central Georgia location such as in Macon and we are looking into venues for this.

    **************************************************************************

The 2009 Annual GASN Conference has been cancelled.

Our 18th GASN Conference will be held in 2010.

Due to the current difficult economic climate and the uncertainty of many of our school nursing positions resulting from Governor Perdue's budget proposal the GASN board has with much deliberation been compelled to cancel our 2009 GASN conference.

Some of the financial support that makes this event possible was not committed due to the economy and uncertainly of the state budget this year. There are minimum numbers of participants required to fulfill contractual obligations if we were to proceed. This was the only fiscally sound decision that could be made and was done so with advisement of several authorities.
We will schedule a business meeting as required by our GASN bylaws  We will honor our School Nurses of the Years at that time.
GASN is strong and sound and focused on the priorities for school nurses in Georgia.
If you are a school nurse, school nurse administrator or health office (clinic) staff, please complete the "SURVEY - SCHOOL HEALTH" so that we will have the data needed for advocacy and for future school nursing events.

Please continue to contact your Legislators to respectlfully ask them to reinstate the school nurse funding in the 2010 Geogia Budget.
If you are not currently a member, please join GASN so that you will receive our regular list serve updates on issues and events affecting school nurses and our students. Visit www.gasn.org regularly to keep updated on school health related subjects.
